John Goldsmith Receives 2015 Elaine Brown Award

Congratulations to John Goldsmith for being named the 2015 recipient of the PA American Choral Directors Association's Elaine Brown Award. John recently retired as director of the University of Pittsburgh Heinz Chapel Choir after a long, distinguished career that included 25 years at the helm of that ensemble. The Elaine Brown Award for Choral Excellence is presented to an individual for outstanding lifelong work in the choral arts. Candidates must possess a minimum of 15 years experience as a musician in the state of Pennsylvania and demonstrate outstanding achievements in choral music, consistently high musical standards, and active participation in the American Choral Directors Association.

Jeff Cornelius Receives 2014 Elaine Brown Award

Congratulations to Jeff Cornelius for being named the 2014 recipient of the PA American Choral Directors Association's Elaine Brown Award. It was presented to him by Janet Yamron and Sonya Garfinkle during the organization's annual fall conference at Seton Hill University. The Elaine Brown Award for Choral Excellence is presented to an individual for outstanding lifelong work in the choral arts. Candidates must possess a minimum of 15 years experience as a musician in the state of Pennsylvania and demonstrate outstanding achievements in choral music, consistently high musical standards, and active participation in the American Choral Directors Association.

Donna Knott Honored with 2015 Eileen M. Hower Award

York County conductor Donna Knott has been named the second recipient of the Eileen M. Hower Award. Donna is recognized for her outstanding work with middle school aged students and is in high demand as a clinician and conductor. Her delightful spirit and desire to grow is admired by countless colleagues and students alike.

The award is given to a Pennsylvania choral music educator who has been teaching for more than 15 years; has a proven record of commitment to developing voices, particularly at the middle school level; maintains high artistic standards; is actively involved in ACDA or some other professional leadership; models a passionate, positive, energetic, and joyful approach to their work. Any member of ACDA PA is eligible to nominate a candidate for the award by submitting a letter of nomination by June 1st of the nominating year. The award will be presented at the summer conference and will consist of a commemorative plaque, an invitation to present the Eileen Hower Memorial Lecture at the ACDA PA summer of fall conference in the academic year following the award, and a complimentary conference registration.

Fall 2014 Undergraduate Conducting Competition Awards

Congratulations to the winners of the third annual Undergraduate Conducting Competition, held at the Fall Choral Conference at Seton Hill University! Paolo Debuque and Kylie Hewitt placed first and second of five talented young conductors who led the Fox Chapel Chamber Singers and then spent time in a clinic and workshop with Peggy Dettwiler.

ACDA-PA 2014 Choral Composition Contest Winner

Congratulations to Casey Rule, the winner of this year's ACDA-PA Choral Composition Contest. His piece "Draw On, Sweet Night" was presented during the Fall Conference in a beautiful performance by the Penn State Glee Club, directed by Christopher Kiver.
