LeRoy.jpgCentral Regional Resources

Greetings, Central Region members!  My name is Meredith LeRoy and I am the new Central Region chair, replacing Dr. Christopher Kiver as he moves into his new role as President-Elect of ACDA PA.  I teach general music and choir at Bellefonte Middle School, which is located in Centre County just a few miles away from Penn State.

I am brand new to the ACDA PA board, and I have lots of ideas floating around in my head that I am working to make into a reality!  Here are my goals for our region:

  • Increase communication.  Do you go to the choral concerts of schools in neighboring districts?  Do you even know when they are?  How about when a nearby school brings in a guest artist for a workshop?  I would love to know more about what’s going on in our region, and I hope you feel the same way!  My plan is to start a bi-monthly email newsletter, where I will compile information about what’s going on in our region (concerts, tours, workshops, and other events) to share with you.
  • Use the website.  Have you explored the new ACDA PA website?  It’s fantastic!  There is so much information on the site, and organized in such a way that it’s really user friendly.  Did you know that we have a message board?  There are boards by region and by R&S areas, as well as a youth and student activities section.  To find these boards on the website, you have to log in – then it will appear under the “Members” drop down menu on the right side of your screen.  Check it out!
  • Find new members.   The organization of ACDA has so much to offer – so why isn’t every choir director in our region a member?  I really think it’s because they have no idea what they’re missing.  I challenge each of you to think of a choir director in your area that is not a member of ACDA and invite them to check out the organization, or even attend a conference with you.
  • Get together.  There is so much to be gained from networking with colleagues.  I think that more social interaction between Central Region members will lead to stronger connections between schools and school districts, new friendships, and hopefully even some choral collaboration between groups.  Let’s find a way to get together more often – even when there’s not choral music involved!

Of course, this list is just a starting point!  Please get in touch with me if you have any questions, suggests, or comments.  I look forward to working with all of you!

Musically yours,

Meredith (Byron) LeRoy
