Summer 2010 Announcement from Eastern Division
Vocal Jazz R&S Chair Sheryl Monkelien:

Mansfield University is proud to be sponsoring the Phil Mattson Vocal Jazz Workshop this summer.  The workshop will run Sunday, July 11 through Friday, July 17.  Workshop participants will have the opportunity to sing in a vocal jazz ensemble, perform in a nightly solo recital, rehearse new vocal jazz literature, take jazz improvisation,  theory, history and arranging seminars.  Housing will be available on campus or at several local motels.

Attached is a brochure with specific details.  On-line registration and more information can be found at www.philmattson.com

This is a great opportunity for the choral educator to learn more about the art of vocal jazz.

Please let me know if you have any questions in the summer workshop.  We hope to see you in Mansfield this summer!

Greetings! Welcome to the Vocal Jazz Repertoire and Standards page for ACDA-PA. It is my pleasure to serve as your R&S representative for this modern idiom. My intent is to provide “tried & true” recommendations of vocal jazz literature. In addition, I will suggest exemplary recordings and vocal jazz improvisation resource texts. As you approach your ensembles with this exciting mission, I invite you to consider the three elements of Repertoire, Listening, and Improvisation. When this synergistic combination occurs, the vocal jazz experience is an affective and gratifying educational experience. Let's begin our journey.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Charles Masters and I serve as director of choral activities at Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg, PA. ACDA-PA is here to serve you and I invite you to correspond with any needs or concerns by contacting me at cmasters@cdschools.org Additional contact info is available at the bottom of the page.

Below, I've included suggestions that reflect the three equally important areas of Repertoire, Listening, and Improvisation.CLICK HERE FOR SUGGESTIONS
