ACDA-PA invites proposals for interest sessions to be presented at the 2024 conference. Sessions will be 60-minutes in length and should fall under the following topics:
ACDA-PA encourages applicants to think creatively, deeply and specifically about these topics and offer sessions that expand our memberships’ perspectives and challenge and question existing models. Applications should be empowering and inspiring for all ACDA members, and collaborative applications and those that include audience participation are encouraged. The deadline for interest session applications is 11:59pm EST, May 15, 2024. Successful applicants will be notified of acceptance by May 31, 2024. Application Materials Required:
ACDA-PA is now accepting submissions for the 12th annual Choral Composition Competition. Compositions must be 3-5 minutes in length, scored for SATB (no divisi) and unison children’s choir. Compositions should be accompanied by piano with the option of adding one obbligato instrument. Please keep in mind that the piece will be rehearsed and performed within a one-day choral workshop sung by a non-auditioned intergenerational choir. Compositions that are not accessible to this ensemble will not be considered.
Announcing the 20th Annual
|
We're excited for our upcoming summer conference on July 30-August 1 at Messiah University, featuring clinicians Andrea and Anthony Trecek King, as well as 12 interest sessions, 3 reading sessions, and performances by our "In the Middle" middle school honor choir and "Choir for All" intergenerational honor choir! The opening concert features the Gettysburg Children's Choir, a professional quartet performing Schumann's “Spanisches Liederspiel,” and Parkside Harmony barbershop chorus. In order for our site host to plan accordingly, we're asking that folks try to register and secure their on-campus housing by Monday, July 24 to allow for accurate counts of meals and accommodations. |
We are excited to offer TWO different honor choir experiences in conjunction with the ACDA-PA Summer Conference at Messiah University this July.
The "Choir for All" Honor Choir was introduced last summer and met with great success. This 2-day festival is open to high school, college/university, community, and worship choirs and provides an opportunity for directors to sing in an ensemble with their singers. Andrea Ramsey will lead the Choir for All in rehearsals and a performance on Monday afternoon on the stage in Parmer Hall.
It's been more than a decade since the Junior High Honor Choir was discontinued as a standard part of the summer. We're delighted to reimagine this SAB ensemble as a one-day festival for students who have completed grades 6, 7, and 8. The "In the Middle" middle school honor choir will be directed by Anthony Trecek-King, and they will perform on the same concert as the Choir for All ensemble on July 31.
"Night" for SATB (divisi), a cappella
by Maira Myers
Maira Myers is a rising Senior at Messiah University. Although she has lived in Harrisonburg, Virginia for most of her life, she has come to Pennsylvania to pursue music education. Maira specializes mainly in voice and has always loved to sing in choirs. She is part of Concert Choir and Chamber Singers at Messiah University and has also sung in numerous choirs throughout her high school years, including district, honors, and state choir. Maira has always had a love and passion for composing music and has continued taking lessons under Dr. Richard Roberson. She is very thankful for the opportunity to continue composing and pursuing music.
Program Notes:
The SATB choral piece "Night" originally came to Maira as she was looking out the window during a long late-night bus ride. Although everything was dark, she felt a sense of peace watching the stars and the passing fields and trees. Since the music came before the words on this occasion, Maira felt inspired to write her own lyrics for the piece. The words and the song aim to express night not as something to be afraid of, but rather as something to be in awe of for its beauty.
